2009
In April I held the IBF Training Day at the Payneham Youth Centre. Guest instructors were Leo Richards with his brand of jujutsu, George H Lee with Chin Na and Terry Riches with Judo. Joe Radice dropped by ( fighter from 1980's) and I was awarded my Senior Teachers Diploma.

Whilst Terry Riches was over on the Friday night we went from the airport to Mick Murphy's dojo and sat as the panel for his 4th Dan grading. It was obvious to us he was well organised, great at executing the techniques and that he had conveyed the style to his students.
Ozbudo was a martial arts forum created to debate and learn. It was decided with so many from SA that we would get together at Ash Sinclair's dojo and have some fun. Ash took us through some ISR Matrix techniques, Shawn Donaldson through Combat Hapkido and Chris Gillies with BJJ drills. Seth Puzek also did a session on kungfu. At about this time I also attended a seminar on the introdution of FFS (Floro Fighting System) The training encompassed many elements of edged weapons self defence. In September 2009 we had a gathering in Quakers Hill at Bruce Freemans club in memory of GM Wally Szlagowski who had died in a pedestrian accident earlier in Feburary this year. It was a sad and emotional occasion. Many of those who had trained with Wally in the past were there including Rob Dobson, Ken Forsstrom, Barry Clarke and John Cook. It was here that I was given a copy of "Karate The Australian Way". A rare book from the 1970's that was found still in a carton stored in a shed. It featured some judo techniques and photos of Tony Gersina, Ken Forsstrom and Ken Chamberland. |
