WHAT HAPPENED - 2011
I started the year off early with a visit to Mick Murphy's club for a training session with Tony Ball in Bo. Dave Ward came with me.
In March it got busy. Again it was terrific to train with Jason Griffiths.
The AMAC tornament was excellent. Once again the students did well. Here are Timika, Steve, Josh, Jessica, Nathan, Jason and Jarrod holding their rewards.
Tim Barnes of Empty Hands Martial Arts had guest Prof. Steve Stewart running a seminar on pressure point jujutsu.
Was good to train with a group of open minded people.
In April we had the second seminar by Mr. Jeff Speakman since we at Ozbudo secured his visit in 2010. I have to thank his representatives for presenting me with his 10 DVD set.
Also in April I held another successful training day at the Burragah Centre. Sessions were on Jujutsu, Bo, pangration, Kosen judo, Koryu Uchinadi and knife defence.
As part of my duties with the IBF Australia I also support other instructors. In July Dante and I went to Sellicks Beach and assessed Dave Gartland for his 3rd Dan. He proved to be an excellent exponent of Ed Parkers Kenpo.
Some of the Szlagowski people realized that there was a lineage here in SA by Rob Dobson. Sensei John Cook as Secretary of the SKA decided to fly over from NSW to visit and share his heritage. He brought a patch over for myself and soon learnt that there are actually 4 of us ( Max Bell, Brian Bellchambers & David Gooding ) still actively training and upholding the principles handed down by our instructor.
At the August AMAC comp this time was my young brother Neale who at 53 years of age decided to take up Wado Ryu and compete. It was obvious to many that the few months of training in the 1970's with me still influenced his style. He won several divisions. I'm glad I was there to see him and several of our students take away some trophies.
I have many friends in Qld. and so I decided they should all meet each other so in August Mr Speakmans reps Suz and Don Woods hosted a Meet and Greet. Those attending were Jason Griffiths, Tony Fletcher, Ivan McWilliams, Peter Hills and David Gooding
Also in August I attended a PDR and SPEAR training with Qld'er James Shang at Pooraka. Harry & Daryl came along also. Fantastic training session.
In October I was asked to run the Womens Self Defence course at the WEA. Great challenge to box up real world defence without an over indulgence in martial arts training.
This year started off with Jason Griffiths seminar including full nelson escapes and takedowns. Jessica and Christine enjoyed the day
