2014
The year took off as normal but we decided to give the Jubilee Centre a try for earlier starting times. Unfortunatel the venue wasn't right and so we have changed our training times to fit in the new KenJutsu class.
In Feburary I visited the Chikara Budo club for Brians Shodan grading. Jess Blocker and Randy joined me and we got in some sparring. Well done Brian.
In March I was invited to train at 2 seminars. The first was at Ricardo Vargas JKD club with Bruce Lee student Richard Bustillo once again and the next week with Ed Parker student at Tim Barnes EHMA kenpo club. April was a little different. "Blocker" not only was a student of ours but also trained with Ricardo Vargas and did fitness & MMA with Mario Maiello. His body building coach was well known champion Adam Fennel. Blocker had his own club with Randy and was keen to have a competition so it was a cage fight on the Saturday night at Findon.
We, as coaches had worked on different elements of his game but in the end Blocker won through his own hard work. This is where you see co-operation between several instructors within the IBF to help a mate realize a dream. I was proud to be a part of it all, the " Team Machine"
On May 25th I hosted the IBF Training Day and we raised over $1700 for Beyondblue. A great day with many regulars and also the Traditional Japanese Karate Network. The video gives a summary of the day. While others try to undermine our efforts we just get on and focus on the better martial arts community because we know that united we grow stronger and leave them in our wake.
July was a busy month also begining with a visit to Queensland to see many friends and have a training session with sister club Brisbane Jinen Karate. Dave Gooding trainined with me in the 1970's and after 40 years of training I convinced him to run his own dojo.
Once I got back we had another brother of the Szlagowski line visit. John Cook is secretary of the SKA and decided to take a break and drop in to demonstrate breaking principles. Everyone had a great time, seems kids love to smash things. Below is a video summary of his visit.
Once again I hosted the Fight For Life SA event here. Held at the Lefevre Stadium there were a great many new faces and over $2400 was raised for the Cancer Council.
