WHAT HAPPENED - 2010
This year started off with Jason Griffiths seminar including full nelson escapes and takedowns. Jessica and Christine enjoyed the day
It was great to have my former instructor Rob Dobson catch up with a few of the Salisbury Karate boys. Stefan and John were training with Graham Tuffee (Moss Hollis student) till Rob took over. Karol (in the foreground) also trained with Moss in his early years. Rob and Karol, with Bill Vaughan were founders of the AMAA which was once recognised for being a good organization for semi contact tornaments and training days before 2000. All my gradings to sixth Dan were signed off by these guys.
In March I also held another successful IBF training day at the Burragah centre. Many past members of Karol and Rob's organization are glad to be reunited under the "Better Martial Arts Community" of the IBF Australia. Guest instructors were Terry Riches, Chris Gillies, Graham Kuerschner, Ivan McWilliams, Ant'z Veen and Shawn Donaldson.
Ozbudo members came together for a training session where we all took some instruction during the course of the evening at Shawn Donaldsons club. Ozbudo is a forum with manners for great discussion and debate on differing views.
I was lucky enough to have handed down to me the original training film sent by Yasuhiro Konishi to Wally Szlagowski. Rob Dobson gave me a DVD also. Many of the Japan Ryobukai were keen to see this so eventually I got it up on Youtube and now it is linked to many sites of those decendant of Shindo Jinen Ryu karate. (Watch video here)
Little is known of karate history in Australia but Wally Szlagowski was recognised for his contribution in the Martial Arts Hall of legends in America. Notice who his most notable student was. I put together a small tribute to Wally who unfortunately was killed in a pedestrian accident last year. (watch video here)
This year I took on organising a training weekend for the Martial Arts Group from WA in September. MAG members failed to give support so I called to the IBF members and instructors and turned it into a note worthy event. Terrific turnout of SA enthusiasts and new friendships were forged, of them was with Soke Tony Ball. The Jinen Karate Club paid for MAG member's flight and the hall hire. (IBF Events page)
In November I once again had a great opportunity to train with Chris Gillies, Shawn Donaldson and Jason Griffiths at Paradise dojo of Peter Koegst.
